Massachusetts Health Reform: Pathetic, Sick, Ugly
September 17, 2007

From the Globe’s op-ed page today, a column by Dr. Steffie Woolhandler and Dr.David U. Himmelstein about the dumbass Mass healthcare bill, brought to us by Mitt Romney, with the aid of a legislature that can only be called corrupt or stupid or bought and paid for by the insurance industry.

Pertinent paragraphs:

And 244,000 of Massachusetts uninsured get zero assistance – just a stiff fine if they don’t buy coverage. A couple in their late 50s faces a minimum premium of $8,638 annually, for a policy with no drug coverage at all and a $2,000 deductible per person before insurance even kicks in. Such skimpy yet costly coverage is, in many cases, worse than no coverage at all. Illness will still bring crippling medical bills –  but the$8,638 annual premium will empty their bank accounts even before the bills start arriving. Little wonder that barely 2 percent of those required to buy such coverage have thus far signed up.

While the middle class sinks, the health reform law has buoyed our state’s wealthiest health institutions. Hospitals like Massachusetts General are reporting record profits and enjoying rate increases tucked into the reform package. Blue Cross and other insurers that lobbied hard for the law stand to gain billions from the reform, which shrinks their contribution to the state’s free care pool and will force hundreds of thousands to purchase their defective products. Meanwhile, new rules for the free care pool will drastically cut funding for the hundreds of thousands who remain uninsured, and for the safety-net hospitals and clinics that care for them.

Read the whole piece here.

Apparently Hilary Clinton is calling for everybody to get insurance when she’s President. And the Mitten is bitching at her that she’s for socialized medicine.

Two stupids in a pod. Romney’s a Republican. He wants everyone to get sick or go broke paying insurance.

Hilary’s a Democrat. I don’t know what in hell she’s thinking, but if her plan includes the insurance companies, she should quit the race.

But all the pols, except Kucinich if I recall correctly, want you to give your money to insurance companies and don’t want to provide reasonable health care for everyone.

We can’t have a reasonable health care system in this country until we get the insurance terrorists… companies… out of the mix. They don’t give a damn about your health, never did, never will. They want your money, money for nothing, so they can drive around in BMW and Mercedes cars.

But as long as they’re allowed to continue buying politicians, you are screwed. Get seriously sick and your life is destroyed. You lose your health, your money, your house, your car, your dignity, all so insurance company executives and managers and salesmen can run around in fancy cars to expensive restaurants, using expense accounts that you paid for.

They’re thieves and they’ll kill you for your money. Literally kill you.

Republican Candidates Disqualify Themselves From Presidency Due To High Doofus Factor
September 13, 2007

In today’s Globe:

Republican Candidate Mitt Romney told the Associated Press that Obama had “disqualified himself for presidential leadership” with his call for an end to US involvement in Iraq.

According to the Mitten, to call for an end to an illegal war and occupation, an end to the waste of ten billion dollars a week, an end to the lies and distortions, an end to the deaths of Americans and Iraqis, and the restoration of sanity to American government disqualifies Obama from leadership.

And saying whatever the local crowd wants to hear, torturing a dog, lying about your positions on issues, swift-boating another candidate with a bogus website, and demonstrating serious ignorance of international issues qualifies the Mitten to serve as President.

Spin in that grave, Orwell, spin, spin, spin!

And in the same paragraph:

And Rudy Giuliani attacked Clinton for telling Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker that their report required the suspension of disbelief. “Why would you say that about an American general?” Giuliani said.

Apparently Rudy G is no longer qualified to be President either. He’s way too naive. And he was actually alive and unimpaired when General Westmoreland, an American general, was lying his way through Vietnam.

And possibly, Rudy baby, it just might be that Petraeus’ view of the war accords as much with reality as your statement that you spent as much time on the rubble of the World Trade Center as the guys who actually did spend day after day, month after month there, and lost their health doing it.

A little earlier in the same story:

Meanwhile, Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona launched a “No Surrender” tour in Iowa. “We have suffered enormous losses, and Americans are frustrated and angry,” he said. “But we do have a new strategy and a new general and it is succeeding and we ought to give it a chance to succeed.”

Apparently Johnny boy missed the part where we invaded and occupied Iraq, not the other way around. Invaders don’t surrender, don’t even think about it, unless they’re in the position of Paulus’s Sixth Army at Stalingrad. Yes, Johnny, we could stay in Iraq for a good long time, maybe even a hundred years. We could bury our treasury there, bury generation after generation of our soldiers there, bury a few million Iraqis too. And the result would always be the same.

The Iraqis will ultimately decide what they want and little of what the United States does will change any of that. It’s not about surrender, Johnny. It’s about facing reality. It’s about restoring sanity to the United States government. It’s about getting Bush and his supporters and enablers out of government and into the insane asylums where they, and apparently you, belong.

And yes, Johnny, we Americans are frustrated and angry, especially at putzes like you and your conservative friends, who keep pushing this war, keep pushing death and chaos and destruction, who keep believing the lies of George Bush and the fudged figures of the Pentagon, who want to believe that the world is still the way it was in the Fifties.  And the Fifties were crap.

The basic fact is that none of these guys are qualified to be President. Hell, just being a Republican is sufficient disqualification.

Giuliani Says It’s All Clinton’s Fault
June 27, 2007

According to the Associated Press, old Rudy says all this terror stuff is Bill Clinton’s fault. Here’s the dope:

“Islamic terrorists killed more than 500 Americans before September 11. Many people think the first attack on America was on Sept. 11, 2001. It was not. It was in 1993,” said the former New York mayor.

Giuliani argued that Clinton treated the World Trade Center bombing as a criminal act instead of a terrorist strike, and said it incited other attacks.

The United States government, then President Clinton, did not respond,” Giuliani said. Osama “bin Laden declared war on us. We didn’t hear it.”

Rudy conveniently leaves out that the people who carried out the 1993 attack are in prison, having been hunted down and captured by the Clinton administration.

And Rudy, a terrorist attack is a criminal act. It is not an act of war.

And as long as we’re toting up dead Americans, perhaps we should add up all the dead people around the world that Americans and American policies have killed, including the half-million or so dead Iraqi children who died as a direct result of the sanctions following the first Gulf War, sanctions that the US fought to keep in place. And let’s not forget the immortal Madeleine Albright claiming that those dead kids were a reasonable price to pay to contain Iraq – a toothless Iraq at that. And you wonder why a lot of people wish us ill, including some with the ability to return some of the pain we’ve caused?

And finally, Mr. 911, you conveniently forget that the Bush administration was warned, time and time again, by its own intelligence agencies and counterterror experts, that it was likely that an attack on US soil was imminent. Remember Ms. Condo Rice, reputed to be the National Security Advisor, saying there was no warning, and then having to read, before the Iraq investigative committee, the security document title that was an actual warning?

Giuliani has nothing to run on but fear and 9/11. That’s his whole game. And when you look close at him you find he didn’t really do squat about 9/11, that his actions and decisions before then were part of the reason the death toll was so horrific among firefighters and police, and that his judgment since then has been, to say the least, questionable. Remember, this is the guy who supported Bernard Kerik, a man with proven ethical failures, for Secretary of Homeland Security. And his state chairman, Thomas Ravenel, in South Carolina was just indicted on federal cocaine charges. Rudy, smart guy that he is, replaced him with Ravenel’s father, who wants to fly the Confederate flag at the State House and who called the NAACP the “National Association for Retarded People”.

Real Presidential timber there, aren’t you, Rudy?

More like a splinter festering in the body politic.
