Republicans And Tea Partiers: They’re About Racial Hatred, Not Reform
March 28, 2010

There’s an excellent column by Frank Rich in today’s New York Times and posted on Common Dreams. The Times article has a bunch of links embedded.

Among other things Rich points out that the current hysteria began before Obama was even elected, and has nothing to do with reform of the health insurance industry.

image As he notes, the Tea Partiers are almost exclusively white and they are the source of any number of racial slurs directed at Obama and black Democratic Congressmen, as well as slurs at gays.

And he notes that the Republicans have had only three blacks in the House or Senate since  1935 and none since 2003. Asian, black, and Hispanic populations are growing, while the white population is shrinking. image

Rich notes that there was no rage about Medicare in the Sixties, but the Civil Rights Act of 1964 generated considerable white rage.

The leadership of the Republican Party – Boehner, McConnell, Palin – and their fascist Klannite media enablers – Beck, Limbaugh, Malkin and the rest – have chosen to incite violence, to inflame rage, to encourage despicable acts that will lead to deadly acts, not because they don’t care for the recent health care bill, but because they see fewer white faces and that scares them, because they see a black man in the Presidency and that terrifies them, because they are at heart bigots and haters whose sole interest is advancing violence to enhance and protect their own careers.

image You know what they’re thinking in the real centers of Republican/Tea Party power, what they’re planning when (it’s always ‘when’ in their minds) they get power again? “You know that Malkin broad, she looks Asian. Maybe we should reconsider letting her broadcast. And that Steele, the guy at the RNC. We have to change that. We can’t have a nigger in a public position. Might give the other ones ideas. You know how uppity they get.”

Yes indeed, folks, when in America do as the Americans do. Behave like twelve-year-old mindless Klanners: kill the niggers, throw the kikes out, kick out the wetbacks, you know, take back our country from the mud people.

Yup, that’s the Republican way, and there’s nothing new and shiny about it. It’s just real white of them.

The Tea Party Rule…
March 26, 2010

The so-called Tea Partiers, whose actions and viciousness and violence have been anything but de rigueur for a tea party, even for the Mad Hatter’s tea party in the nutso world of illogic and madness of Alice in Wonderland, these Tea Partiers do live by a rule, a rule that governs their thoughts and actions and apparently their every waking moment.

The rule they live by is called The Law of Logical Argument. It’s a very simple rule, and it says:

Anything is possible if you don’t know what you are talking about.

Apparently their rule covers the harassment and intimidation of public officials by threats and acts of violence, up to and including the violent overthrow of the United States government, which is the logical outcome of their thoughts and actions.

The Tea Partiers, and their financial backers from the wealthy elites, are the new American Nazis. Ignorance and violence in word and deed is their credo. Fear and ignorance and violence form the constellation of their guiding stars. They have chosen not to think for themselves, they have chosen not to learn facts and analyze evidence, they have chosen only to do what their masters tell them to do, never once considering that the people behind the Tea Party movement have an agenda that will, if accomplished, throw the rank and file of the Tea Party onto the trash heap of false color political movements.

Ignorance is the best friend of violence.

The Tea partiers have plenty of both.

Is The Health Insurance Mandate Backdooring To The Public Option?
March 22, 2010

Okay, The Lion is not a constitutional lawyer, but there’s a question of slyness involved in the health care legislation wending its way through Congress.

Assuming the Senate passes the reconciliation bill of fixes and the President signs the whole magilla, there will be some reform of the health insurance industry, purchased at the price of mandating that everyone buy insurance.

But some thirty states are saying they’re going to fight that provision, and likely some others. Suppose they do, and the mandate question ends up in the Supreme Court.

And further suppose the Boys In Black strike down the mandate, but otherwise leave the law intact.

Then the insurance companies are naked and will have to compete in an open market (the so-called free market the right wing is so fond of promoting while they support it with government handouts and take kickbacks in campaign contributions).

Ergo, in essence, a faux public option in which people will buy the best deal, likely driving down prices and concomitantly forcing the medical care industry to clean up its pricing too.

Could the Democrats have been planning on such a coup all along?

Probably not, but it could be interesting.

Jon Stewart Does Glenn Beck
March 19, 2010

In a stunning tour de force, Jon Stewart imitates Glenn Beck for thirteen minutes and completely trashes the little clown. Did you know that Bert of Sesame Street is actually Hitler? Stewart/Beck proves it.

Clear a space on the floor, because you’re going to be rolling on it.

Eric Holder hands Bin Laden a weapon…

In a Congressional hearing yesterday United States Attorney General handed Osama Bin Laden, the most hunted man in the world, a weapon.

While being questioned by one of those Republicans who have no faith in the judicial system of the United States, a system which the Republicans under their last President rendered corrupt to a degree that would have been unbelievable only a few years before, Holder said:

“The reality is that we will be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Osama bin Laden. He will never appear in an American courtroom. That’s the reality. … He will be killed by us, or he will be killed by his own people so he’s not captured by us. We know that.”

Bin Laden should be licking his chops over that. All he has to do now to score another coup against the U.S. is to walk into an embassy of a European country and surrender.

If he’s killed extrajudicially the American legal system looks like crap to the world, and he becomes a martyr driving recruitment from the ranks of the disaffected into the terrorist cadres.

If he is instead held by a European country, there will be a long, drawn out legal battle because Europeans don’t have the death penalty and won’t extradite to the United States, which does make a practice of killing people in little rooms in the middle of the night.

If the U.S. agrees to extradition without the death penalty being applicable, the right wing nutcases (read Republicans) will have a field day as they try to drive the country to be more like Afghanistan.

If there is a public trial, it will drag on, and Bin Laden’s cohorts will benefit from the publicity. If there is a secret trial, the terrorists have a martyr. If he is killed, they have a martyr. If he dies from a heart attack, they have a martyr. If he chokes to death on some hummus, they have a martyr.

Thanks for all that, Attorney General Holder. By trying to appease the mouth-breathers on the right, you may have created a real monster of a problem.

[Just so we don’t forget, the United States has destroyed two countries; has fought two wars for nine and eight years respectively; has spent hundreds of billions of dollars and thousands of lives; has killed tens, if not hundreds of thousands of innocent people; has thrown a large part of the world into dangerous turmoil; and shows no signs of giving up their horror show of slaughter and destruction for a saner, more productive policy, and still has no idea where bin Laden is, or even if he is alive.]

Michael Moore; Flint, Michigan; and Health Insurance Greed…

Michael Moore writes a good piece on the bullshit health insurance support legislation heading for a vote this weekend in Congress.

One of the points he makes:

And how big will the fines be if the insurance companies do deny someone coverage for having a pre-existing condition? Are you sitting down? A hundred dollars a day! That’s it! So if you’re the insurance company, and Judy is a customer of yours, and Judy needs an operation that will cost $100,000, what do you do? You take the fine! Let’s say Judy lives another year after you’ve sentenced her to death, your $100-a-day fine will only cost you $36,500! That’s a savings of $63,500! And trust me, my friends, that’s EXACTLY what’s going to happen.

If this bill goes through without a strong public option to control insurance company greed and sociopathic behavior, the American people will get screwed again, and again, and again, by Congress, by the insurance companies, and by every other corporate entity that sees how easy it is to buy a piece of the taxpayer pie while pulling the wool over the eyes of Congressmen and Senators and regulators who only have eyes for corporate dollars.

CNN sinks deeper into a morass of ugliness and calls it news…

CNN, ostensibly a television news network, or at least it was once upon a time, has sunk to a new low, according to Talking Points Memo.

CNN’s newest acquisition in a bid for ratings is a chubby fellow named Erick Erickson, a right wing sicko in the mold of fellow sociopathic loudmouths Glenn Beck and Rush ‘Fat Man’ Limbaugh. Erickson is the editor of the blog RedState, and will be a ‘political contributor’ to John King’s show, which was formerly touted as a straight news show. Apparently the ratings tanked and the brass at CNN decided they had to get vile.

In Tuesday’s announcement, CNN political director Sam Feist lauded Erickson as being a voice for small-town values.

"Erick’s a perfect fit for John King, USA, because not only is he an agenda-setter whose words are closely watched in Washington, but as a person who still lives in small-town America, Erick is in touch with the very people John hopes to reach," Feist said.

A few of Mr. Erickson’s memorable moments, quoting the TPM piece:

He’s called a Supreme Court justice a "goat-fucking child molester." Last month, he told "ugly" "feminazis" to "return to their kitchens." He’s compared an administration official to a Nazi and called First Lady Michelle Obama a "Marxist harpy."

Makes one wonder about those small-town values the right wing  always touts as the solution to the nation’s problems.

AHIP Ad Is Self-Serving Crap. Big Surprise.
March 16, 2010

A front group for the corporate rip-off artists known as health insurance companies put an ad out today telling readers how wonderful the insurance industry is and that the industry actually makes health care more affordable. Just in case you wonder who they really represent, and be assured it’s not you, go to their membership page. All the big names that have been stealing you blind for decades are there.

Welcome to the land of twisted logic.

We strongly support real health care reform that covers
all Americans, makes pre-existing conditions a
thing of the past, and controls skyrocketing medical costs.

Nonsense. They have had the opportunity and the clout for decades to do these things before now, without the hammer of federal law to force them. They have refused because they make their money by denying coverage, by finding every possible piddling excuse to cancel policies so they don’t have to pay medical bills.

The only reason they want to come out and say these things now is because the government is handing them tens of millions of new subscribers, because those millions of people will now be forced into servitude by having to pay for inferior insurance from people who are no better than sociopathic pirates and thieves.

And health insurance companies are not health care companies. They do not give one injection, perform one operation, make one diagnosis, do one single thing that amounts to health care. They make their judas coin by taking subscribers money and denying subscribers the money for health care, leaving those subscribers to be crucified on the cross of sickness, suffering, and misery.

The cost of medical treatments and technologies continues to rise without regard to quality and effectiveness. A
year’s supply of some prescription drugs can cost more
than $250,000. The average cost for a single day’s
stay in the hospital is more than $3,000. A typical MRI
exam costs $1,200.

And the insurance pirates again have had decades to address the problem of costs, and have done nothing substantial, other than raise premiums, deny care, deny coverage, and cancel policies, all to increase profit at the expense of hard-working people who struggle to pay the outrageous premiums, premiums that buy them nothing but aggravation, that do nothing but put ill-trained bureaucratic corporate slugs between them and good health care. So for the pirate industry to complain about health care costs is a total crock.

Health insurers make health care more affordable by helping patients manage chronic conditions, promoting prevention and wellness, and fighting waste and fraud. And the total cost of everything we do, including all overhead, marketing, and profits, amounts to four percent of our nation’s health care spending. We need to become even more efficient, but reform also needs to address the other 96 percent.

Neither health care nor insurance have become more affordable, as the ad itself notes about health care, and as the media note every day in reporting another arrogant health insurance company raising premiums and shutting off coverage for subscribers who get sick.

The ‘total cost of everything we do’ being four percent is misdirection at best, if not an outright lie. Add up all the premiums they take in: that constitutes a major part of so-called health care costs, costs which provide no health care. And that four percent? Four percent of what? The whole health care bill for the country? How about listing the percentage of income for each company that goes to overhead, marketing, profits and obscene salaries. That would be an honest number, assuming they don’t lie about it. That number would tell you what your premiums are really paying for.

And another huge chunk of so-called health care costs comes from the unconscionable amount of time and effort every medical office has to devote to fighting with dozens of insurance companies, with all their varied and dissimilar forms and requirements.

Let’s face it, insurance companies are nothing more than crooked bookies. They take your money, your bet on your health, and they pocket it and tell you your horse lost, so they don’t owe you a damn thing. And there’s not a damn thing you can do about it, except get sick and die.

Your insurance company stands between you and your doctor, between you and good health care. They do not do health care. They do money, and they aren’t needed. Your health care dollars should go from you to your doctors with an absolute minimum of interference from anyone else.

Medicare is the only program in the United States that does that for the average retired working person, and it does it for a genuine four percent operating cost. And it does it with virtually no interference in the doctor-patient relationship.

Medicare is a single payer, government run medical insurance program. Is it perfect? Of course not. But it’s better than the frauds and thieves running the private insurance companies. And if you want to talk savings, imagine how much money would be saved and how much more time your doctor could devote to giving you good medical care if he didn’t have to fight with insurance companies and didn’t have to maintain any number of staff whose only task is to wade through all those different insurance forms and requirements.

AHIP is promoting a crock of crap to make its corporate pirates look good. They want you to feel okay about handing them your money under the proposed federal mandate. You’re being tossed to the wolves and the wolves want to look pretty in their sheep suits. Unfortunately, no matter how you dress a wolf, no matter how much lipstick you put on it, it’s still a wolf. And The Lion apologizes to the wolves of the world, because for the most part they’re smarter than humans, especially the humans who buy into the sheep crap put out by AHIP and the insurance companies.

Liberty University: Generation of Idiots, Generation of Vipers
March 10, 2010

image

Go ahead, read the article at Common Dreams about the fundogelicals from Liberty University, the child of viper evangelist Jerry Falwell, who want to be doctors, researchers, and lawyers, but utterly refuse to accept the solid scientific research and study underlying evolution.

Do we really want people this stupid, this arrogant, this childish, to be working in any job other than digging ditches or flipping hamburgers?

These are people who want to be doctors, but given their beliefs they won’t be able to accept the germ theory of disease. After all, bacteria evolve.

These are people who want to be lawyers, but mentally and emotionally can’t handle facts and evidence.

These are people who want to do research. Why? Everything they need to know is in their pathetic holy book written thousands of years ago for a society barely out of the Stone Age. Turn these fools and idiots loose on society and they’ll take us right back to those times.

Condemning his school and his students and himself, out of his own mouth, is professor of paleontology Marcus Ross, who teaches his students the utterly idiotic nonsense of creationism as if it were fact and evolution was nothing more than a pack of lies. He says, at the end of the article, “The attitude is when you are a creationist you are ignorant of the facts.”

He teaches his students that dinosaurs were wiped from the face of the Earth 4,000 to 5,000 years ago during the flood that Noah survived by building an ark.

Yeah, Ross, you are willfully ignorant, and you should be stripped of whatever academic credentials you bought at the fundogelical dime store, because you and your buddy professors are a disgrace to learning, to intellect, to education.  You’re the vipers that mislead, that poison the world, that cripple the minds of youth.

Do the world a favor and go crawl back into your cave and tell your fairy tales by the fire.
