Nader Deconstructs Obama State Of The Union; Prez Ain’t Listening
January 30, 2010

There’s piece by Ralph Nader over at Common Dreams that takes apart some of the logic of Mr. Obama’s State of the Union speech. It makes for interesting reading. The old guy’s still got a sharp mind.

Obama Ju-Jitsus The Republicans
January 29, 2010

The Lion just watched Mr. Obama’s meeting with House Republicans in Baltimore. Well, they were in Baltimore and The Lion was ranting from his recliner on Cape Cod. The wonders of television, you know.

This meeting put Mr. Obama, alone, at a microphone in front of the entire Republican caucus. He gave a short speech and then took questions.

Anyway, the so-called questions started off with Representative Mike Spence of Indiana supposedly positing a question. What he actually did was parrot a scripted talking point designed to embarrass the President.

At that point The Lion slammed his finger onto the remote control off button, cursed roundly, and left the room. Unfortunately The Lion is somewhat weak-willed, and after heating up some nice Italian wedding soup, he turned the fool box back on and watched the rest of the Republican charade.

No point in rehashing the details. The major points to take from the exercise were that the Republicans apparently comprise a bunch of adolescents, and that Mr. Obama would appear to be smarter than the whole Republican caucus, and a better, more decent, more civil human being than any of them can possibly claim to be.

The Republicans’ questions were so obviously scripted, so obviously intended to trap or embarrass the President rather than elicit a genuine give and take, that The Lion almost felt like feeling a bit of sympathy for the Republicans. Loyal readers will be glad to know that The Lion did not give in.

The most embarrassing performance was given by a woman Representative from Tennessee. She gave a five minute speech in such an annoying tone, and so far out of bounds for the purpose of the meeting, that Mr. Obama at one point tried to break in, but she just kept rolling along, spewing distortion after deceit after misinformation on her way to a proforma question.

Mr. Obama, to his credit and as he did during the whole session, called her out on her twisting of fact. He did not back down once during the whole meeting, and he called out individuals directly when they tried to lie or distort. Time after time he pointed out that what they were saying was factually wrong. Over and over the Republicans claimed none of their ideas were heard, and time after time Mr. Obama gave them chapter and verse on where and how their very ideas were incorporated into various legislation.

Mr. Obama turned the Republicans’ transparent deceit against them in this very public forum in an act of political ju-jitsu. It was enough to restore some of The Lion’s lost faith in the man.

The President’s goal for this meeting was to restart a civil and productive conversation between the parties for the purpose of solving the country’s problems rather than positioning themselves for the next election.

The Republican goal for the meeting was to embarrass the President by pushing talking points rather than opening an honest give-and-take.

Obama seemed to sincerely want a legitimate conversation. The Republicans wanted nothing more than to score some public relations points.

The Lion would like to see Mr. Obama prevail and the government return to a legitimate and productive process of governing for the people.

The Lion also believes, as he has for some time, that the Republicans have no interest in legitimate and productive government, which is no surprise since they have shown over and over that they are incapable of governing beyond the level of the tribes in Lord of the Flies. Today’s performance by the Republican tribe proved that.

If you missed the live telecast, look for it on the web. It’s well worth watching, and, at its core, far more exciting than anything else you’ll find on television.

The Economy Is So Bad…
January 28, 2010

AARP has lowered its enlistment age to 25.

I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.

I ordered a burger at McDonald’s and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"

CEO’s are now playing miniature golf.

If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you call them and ask if they meant you or them.

Stocks in Hot Wheels and Matchbox are trading higher than GM.
McDonald’s is selling the ¼ ouncer.

Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children’s names.

A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico.
Dick Cheney took his stockbroker hunting.

Motel Six won’t leave the light on anymore.

The Mafia is laying off judges.

Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.

Congress says they are looking into this Bernard Madoff scandal. Oh Great!!  The guy who made $50 Billion disappear is being investigated by the people who made $1.5 Trillion disappear!

And, finally…

I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan , and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

[A tip of The Lion’s mane to his friend Johnny H. out in Arizona.]

Bored Lion Reveals Secret Search Engine Terms
January 28, 2010

A popular pastime among bloganadoes appears to be posting odd search engine terms that point otherwise sane people at a blog. The Lion, being bored lately, unable to concentrate, lacking energy to write anything that matters, noodled through the list of terms which drove people to Grumpy Lion. Herewith a few…

naked women drinking coffee

Not exactly an appealing picture, unless we are talking Victoria’s Secret models. Perhaps the searcher had them in mind, or perhaps he’s not so particular. After all, he/she didn’t name the brand of coffee. There is a difference in naked women drinking common  Maxwell House coffee, and naked women drinking Starbucks Verona coffee. Classier boobs, perhaps? Firmer butts? More efficient pancreatic functioning?

numbnuts streets

A particular kind of nut bearing tree lining the streets? Or perhaps the searcher sought images of low-level Mafiosi hanging out on a street in Brooklyn? Or are we dealing with an enraged and rejected woman seeking images of streets full of men doubled over in pain?

www.lion sex withn girl

Did he leave out the second ‘i’ in ‘within’? And why on earth would the searcher want to carry in his head an image of a lion ravaging a girl? Unless of course he meant The Lion, but even that is likely not to be all that pretty, and besides, The Lion’s ravaging days are done, or least the ravaging is likely to be more peaceable and take longer and thus no longer qualify as ravaging.

girl having sex with lion

If anyone has her phone number, please notify The Lion. He seems to have forgotten the incident.

giggle people

How this ended up at Grumpy Lion is beyond The Lion’s imaginative ken. Even The Lion’s Barbie is nonplussed. The Lion is simply not given to giggling. Outright, prolonged laughter a la A Thousand Clowns, yes, but giggles, no.

lions sex with little girls

Alright, that is just beyond rude, and well into criminal.

"mini wheats" clinical study

Lions are not vegetarians, or granarians, as the case may be. Who would be performing a clinical study of mini-wheats? To what end? Are they talking about those little cartoon mini-wheats on the television commercials? Someone should notify the scientists that those are cartoon characters, that they are not real, and when you go to notify those researchers, take a big net and some large gentlemen in hospital whites.

motto for grumpy people

Well at least that makes sense, though it would be nice to know what the motto is. The Lion has not got a motto, just a growl. And some rhetorical teeth.

pee

Rude.

people who giggle when they talk

The Lion tries very hard to avoid such people. Their lifestyle is most trying, and wears on The Lion’s soul. Fortunately most such people are teenagers and easily avoided. There are, though, some older  people who are simply unable to stifle giggles when discussing serious matters, such as existentialism, Kant, calculus, or dinner: most of them are no bother since they are securely locked up.

Such are the ways of the World Wide Web as it reveals the strange, glimmering depths of the human mind. It’s almost enough to drive a person to read a book, perhaps ‘The Plague’, or ‘Being and Nothingness’. Whatever.

Big Surprise! Pat Robertson Lied About Haiti And Satan
January 23, 2010

According to Jean R. Gelin, who is a Haitian pastor in the U.S. and who holds a Ph.D in plant sciences, he has been unable to discover any evidence that there was ever any deal with that faux Christian nemesis, Satan, to save Haiti from the French. [Long article. Short article.]

Gelin says his studies of Haitian history turn up no good evidence of the satanic pact.

Pat Robertson, an arrogant and ignorant Christian mouthpiece whose beliefs would appear to come directly from his own deals with Satan, made the claim at the time of the Haitian earthquake.

The world breathlessly awaits an apology from the pathetic old hypocrite. Breathlessly. Waits. Waiting. Still waiting.

Scott Brown Elected President; Democrats Whimper, Hide, Pee Their Pants
January 21, 2010

Early prediction from The Lion’s vast store of prognosticatory wisdom – the Republicans will choose Scott Brown as their Presidential candidate in 2012, and he will defeat the Democratic candidate, who may or may not be Barack Obama.

The Republicans won’t be able to resist him, barring major career missteps in the Senate. He’s too pretty, his beliefs and actions are too attractive to them. Brown is Republican catnip. Witness the following from WikiPedia:

Political positions

Brown has positioned himself as an independent conservative counterweight to Massachusetts’ current all-Democratic, 12-member Congressional delegation.[14][1] He describes himself as fiscally conservative and socially conscious. He has said, "I’m going to be the only person down there who is going to be the independent voter and thinker…. I’ve always been the underdog in one shape or form".[1]

  • opposes a proposed multi-billion dollar tax on banks and prescribing bank executive compensation. Brown, discussing the proposal through a spokesperson, said that "he is opposed to higher taxes, especially in the midst of a severe recession". He also opposes it on the grounds that the tax would likely be passed onto consumers in the form of higher service and ATM fees.[47][48]
  • advocates that suspected terrorists be tried in military tribunals and not civilian courts.[11] He also supports the use of enhanced interrogation techniques including waterboarding.[49]
  • supports expanding solar power, wind power, nuclear power, and offshore drilling exploration as a means to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign oil. He opposes putting up a wind farm on Nantucket Sound, remarking, "[i]t’s like putting turbines on Boston Common".[1]
  • worked in the Hidden Wounds of War Commission, focused on improving the access to mental health services available to veterans. In 2007, Brown wrote a law establishing a check off box on State income tax forms to allow a filer to indicate if he or she is a veteran of the Iraq or Afghanistan wars. Known as the “Welcome Home” bonus, the measure was passed with bipartisan support.[10]
  • opposes federal funding for elective abortions in accordance with the Hyde Amendment.[6]
  • supported bill that requires emergency rooms to provide contraceptives to rape victims.[39]
  • supports religious hospitals in refusing to provide emergency contraception, causing the woman to go to another hospital. He said, “That’s really up to the hospital. There are many, many hospitals that can deal with that situation.”[50]
  • supports the death penalty.[51]
  • opposes providing driver’s licenses and in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. He also supports strengthening border enforcement and creating an employment verification system with penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants.[51]

It won’t matter that a Brown presidency will merely result in more wars, more deficit spending, more discord, more hatred of America in the world, more American arrogance, more American soldiers killing and being killed abroad for nebulous reasons, more religious interference in everyday life in America, more brutality in American prisons as well as more convicts, more bigotry and hatred directed at immigrants of any stripe, more violence by Israel against Palestinians, more criminal raping and pillaging of Americans by American banks and financiers, more American jobs going overseas, more destruction of the environment. In a word, Brown will be Bush-Cheney, but prettier on the surface.

The Democrats, having shown that they cannot stand up and provide a simple, emotional, and coherent statement of what they stand for; having shown that they will not stand up to the schoolyard bullies and knuckle-draggers of the Republicans; having shown that they prefer to stand with and cozy up to special interests which oppose good government and the welfare of the nation and the people; these Democrats will lose the 2012 election.

The news media, having abandoned all pretense of honest journalism long ago in favor of brownnosing the conservatives and sucking up to corporations, will fawn over Brown (they’ve already started) and guarantee his win, thus solidifying their position in society as ignorant whores useful only for providing entertainment that hides truth.

And thus the United States continues its long slide into night.

Alice In The Asylum: The Democrats Don’t Understand American Politics, And Scott Brown Is The Price They Paid
January 20, 2010

Scott Brown, conservative Republican of Massachusetts, known to his supporters as the superhero, Naked Man, trounced a lackluster, decidedly unheroic Attorney General Martha Coakley to win a seat in the United States Senate, a crippled institution of little apparent value to the people of the United States.

Brown’s win was not what the Democrats expected or wanted, but they stuck themselves with it.

The Lion gives credit to the Republican campaign machine, which ran a moneyed, skilled campaign to elect another mediocre candidate to join their stable of mediocrities and nutcases already in Congress.

Now the nation is being inundated by pundits and politicians all spinning Brown’s win in ways that push their own agenda. The Republicans, led by the ever more senile Senator Mitch McConnell, proclaim that the voters elected Brown to send a message that the Democrats and the Obama administration should stop everything they’re doing and let the country sink back into the morass that the Great Republican George W. Bush-Cheney led the United States. Stop everything except the wars, and let’s have more useless wars to match the useless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan: that’s the Republican spin.

The Democratic spin? Some are running for the hills, crying, “Apocalypse, apocalypse, Armageddon. I’m a conservative, I’m a conservative, we were wrong, we were wrong.” They belong to the Clown Dog wing of the Democratic Party.

Others are saying they’ll just work around the whole filibuster thing. But, as the Prime Prophet Jon Stewart noted, they’ve got an eighteen vote majority in the Senate, so how could they possibly accomplish anything.

Others are saying, “It’s not our fault the voters in Massachusetts are crazy. Just a blip. Just a glitch. No problem.”

Still others who have some tenuous grasp on reality are thinking that maybe they need to tweak the policies they’ve been pushing and that will make everything okay. Or that they need to get out there and really ‘sell’ health care reform.

Well, no.

Democrats, as usual, missed the blaring headline. Once again they failed to understand the emotional content of politics, the power of symbols, the power of simplicity. After all, the electorate is not really very smart. They don’t study policies. They don’t dig into facts and figures. How could they? They’ve resented every tax dollar that went into schools and schooling, and the result is basically an electorate with the mind of a three-year-old child.

But they do get the emotional thing, they do get the symbol thing.

It goes like this:

After eight years of an incompetent Republican regime that brought the terrorist attacks of 9/11 down on us by ignoring intelligence; that brought an unfunded educational mandate down on the states, a mandate that ensured a further dumbing down of students; that brought two unnecessary and useless wars, at least one of which was illegal, and both of which funneled billions of taxpayer dollars into war-profiteering corporations friendly to Bush and Cheney; that told the wealthiest people in America that they pretty much didn’t have to pay taxes anymore; that borrowed so much money that creditors could reduce the United States to an entity poorer than Haiti; that put hacks and losers in charge of key government agencies and then claimed that government could do nothing right; that tortured and murdered prisoners of war and cooked up justifications in a Justice Department that they had already corrupted; that violated the wiretap law thousands of times by listening in on Americans’ communications without even seeking warrants; after all that along came Barack Obama, an intelligent black man, a skilled orator, an accomplished politician, a leader who promised ‘Change’ in Washington.

Naturally people thought all the talk about change meant that Obama would actually change the foul and corrupt culture and practices the Republicans had brought to Washington, and the people were mightily relieved at the thought, so they voted for him.

And then he betrayed them.

He said the torturers, the despicable Americans who tortured and murdered prisoners, should not be brought to justice; instead the nation should look forward, not backwards. In effect he said that America tortures and murders and that that’s okay. That was a betrayal of the common decency of Americans, and it was a betrayal of American law and the American Constitution.

Obama promised health care reform, and immediately took health care reform off the table and replaced it with health insurance company support programs. He cozied up to the insurance industry and the drug industry, two of the most despised industries in the country. He told the American people that he would force them to buy health insurance from the same despicable firms that had been robbing the people blind for decades, indeed, had been killing many of them in order to increase profits. The Great Democrat, the black man, the first black President of the United States, the symbol of freedom and accomplishment, the symbol of the success of Martin Luther King’s long struggle, now proposed to enslave all Americans to a rapacious, greedy, cruel set of masters, the insurance companies. That was betrayal on a profound level.

Then there was the economic disaster the Republicans handed Obama. Hundreds of thousands of jobs lost every month. Credit frozen, banks failing, major investment banks on the verge of collapse. The Bush Republicans, a demonstrably venal and incompetent lot to begin with, decided to hand the Treasury over to the big Wall Street companies that had brought this disaster down on the country, indeed, on the world. The people in charge were Wall Streeters and their minions. It was all very chummy and the people were getting screwed again.

Obama, sensing the urgency of the catastrophe, got all the best minds he could around him to advise him on solutions. All Wall Streeters and their minions. Hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars were handed over to the greedy barons of Wall Street in order to save their bacon and their companies (which, by the way, created nothing, manufactured nothing, produced nothing, contributed nothing to the country), and the barons of Wall Street proceeded to hand themselves handsome bonuses, some even bigger than before the catastrophe, with taxpayer money. And Obama saw that it was good. Meanwhile, the people on Main Street got lip service and lost their homes and their jobs. And the people saw that it was a betrayal.

And even more galling, even a more profound betrayal, Obama turned to the Republicans, expecting a bipartisan effort to heal the country’s ills. No matter that the Republicans bluntly and openly said they would not help, that they would fight him all the way, that they hoped he would fail and fail big; no matter that some of them simply lied and pretended to be interested in helping, when their real goal was to delay and undermine; no matter that the Republicans were still wedded to the destructive policies of the Bush administration. No matter how many times they slapped Obama in the face, he went back for more. That was one more betrayal, perhaps the deepest cut of all, against the people who fought so hard to elect him to the Presidency.

Now anyone can come along and quibble with the facts in these narratives, but  to do so misses the point. The electorate doesn’t much care about the facts. The voters generally aren’t smart enough, aren’t informed enough, don’t care enough to get informed enough to make informed decisions. But they do get the emotional symbolism of these narratives, whereas the Democratic leaders do not.

The voters see the Democrats selling them out to the corporations, to the bankers, to the rich people who have gotten a free ride on the backs of the working classes. The voters see their tax dollars going into the pockets of wealthy financiers, into corporate coffers from which those dollars will flow back to the politicians who will vote to crush the working classes, drive them into bankruptcy, take their homes, destroy their jobs, all to satisfy the rich people who give money to politicians.

That’s the Obama’s America the voters see. That’s the America they voted against yesterday in Massachusetts by sending a mediocre man of limited intellect who promised nothing more than to drag them back into the Bush years of corporate favoritism, torture and murder, spiraling debt, and provide nothing for their tax dollars but war and more war, fear and more fear. All the voters heard was “I’ll cut taxes” and “I drive a pickup truck.”

It’s not Alice in Wonderland irrationality that prevails in American politics. It’s Alice in the Asylum madness. And the Democrats don’t get it.

How Obama And His Crew Have Screwed The Democrats
January 19, 2010

The Lion’s already said it, but here’s Robert Kuttner’s conclusion of his piece over at Huffington Post:

Either way, the Massachusetts surprise should be a wake-up call of the most fundamental kind. Obama needs to stop playing inside games with bankers and insurance lobbyists, and start being a fighter for regular Americans. Otherwise, he can kiss it all goodbye.

Worth reading the whole thing. It’s not long.

How The Government Is Screwing You And Why You Aren’t Enjoying It
January 17, 2010

A lengthy quote from a Common Dreams piece by Robert Freeman:

Here is the executive summary of U.S. economic policy over the past 30 years:

Dramatically lower taxes on the wealthiest people in the country; meanwhile, undercut the working and middle classes by shipping their jobs overseas so corporations can profit by paying Chinese and Indian workers 5% of what they pay American workers; send the finished products back to the U.S. and sell them to former workers with now-downsized jobs by getting them to take on onerous levels of debt; when that is still not enough to keep the economy afloat, have the government increase its debt, in the process binding those former and downsized workers with government debts that they will carry for the rest of their lives; have the whole system laundered through big banks who create nothing, but take a piece of the action on every transaction; make sure these banks are "too big to fail" so that when they fail, the downsized, indebted workers can be made to disgorge the last of their remaining assets in order that the banks and their owners don’t  suffer any losses on their predatory investments that went bad.

Repeat this process until the working and middle classes have been milked of all of their assets and their wealth has been transferred into the hands of the richest people on earth.

It’s working exactly as planned.

Between 1993 and 2007, 50% of all the growth in the U.S. economy went to the richest 1%.  Between 2002 and 2006, it was even worse:  an astounding three quarters of all the economy’s growth was captured by the top 1%.   In 2007, this top 1% captured 20% of all the income in the entire nation.  The top 10% corralled fully half of all the income earned in the entire country, as much as the bottom 90% combined.  Only one time since 1913 has so much of the nation’s income been seized by such a small elite.  That was 1928, the year before the stock market collapsed, ushering in the Great Depression.

The data on concentration of wealth are even more startling.  The top 1% own more than 50% of all assets in the U.S.  They own more than 70% of all financial assets.  Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of wealth holders own a mere 3.5% of all the assets in the country.  The bottom 40% own nothing.  They have a combined net worth of zero.  Middle class homeowners now own less of the equity in their homes, 45%, than at any time since World War II when the figure stood at 70%.  They lost $13 trillion in the housing meltdown, even as the entire past decade produced zero net new jobs.

So where are we now?

Seven million high-paying manufacturing jobs have been shipped overseas in the past decade, one third of all those in the entire economy.  Twenty per cent of the nation’s labor force – thirty million people – are idle or underutilized.  Thirty percent of the nation’s factory capacity is idle.  Three quarters of the nation’s home building capacity is idle.  More workers are out of work longer that at any time since such statistics started being collected, in 1948.  The results are cataclysmic.

Ten thousand homes enter foreclosure every day.  More than 39 million Americans – one out of eight – are on food stamps.  Half of all American children will be on food stamps at some point in their lives!  Seventy-seven million Baby Boomers stand on the threshold of retirement, expecting, hoping, praying that the nation will honor the promises it has made to them for the last 50 years.  It will not, because it cannot.

The national debt that stood at $1 trillion in 1980 now stands at $12 trillion.  And this was run up over a period of supposed economic prosperity!  Personal debt has risen from 65% of income in 1980 to 125% today.  The nation’s unfunded liabilities – debts it has committed to pay but for which there is no identifiable source of funding – exceed $65 trillion.  The U.S. economy must borrow more than $5 billion every day just to keep its lights on.  Most of that comes from foreign creditors-China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and such.  Interest payments on this debt will soon reach $1 trillion a year.  Not since before the Civil War has the U.S. been so dependent on foreign capital.

When all the assets that are pledged as collateral against this borrowing have been exhausted, the lights will go out, as they must.  The creditors will simply pull their capital out of the economy as they did from the Asian countries in the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s.  The U.S. has become a banana republic, ruled by a small, ultra-rich oligarchy who look after themselves, with everybody else living entirely at the mercy of their wealthy masters.

Despite Obama’s cheesy rhetoric and faux-liberalism, his economic program is, in fact, little different than that of George W. Bush.  More than $14 trillion have been committed to the banks in the bailout but only $135 billion have been committed to the automobile industry.  That’s $100 to the banks that wrecked the global economy for every $1 devoted to the "real" economy, where real people live and work.  This ratio played out exactly in December when, on Christmas eve, Obama, with a wave of his magic pen, increased funding for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac by $400 billion.  Later, he begrudgingly relented on an additional $4.5 billion for GMAC.  Once again, that’s $100 to the banks for every $1 to the automobile companies and their workers.

This policy reaches its abusive extreme when the government allows banks to borrow unlimited amounts from the Federal Reserve at 0% and then re-loan the same money to maxed-out credit card holders at 27%.  Or, with the same banks opening their own payday lending arms to milk truly desperate borrowers with interest rates of 400% or higher.  If the front door of the looting operation was the $14 trillion hand-over during the bailout, this is the back door, out of sight but ever so effective because, with everybody hooked on debt, they have no alternative.

The rest of the article offers a solution to rebuild the economy, for real people, not for the wealthy pirates and sociopaths who have set out to destroy the country in order to enrich themselves.

Pat Robertson: Still Vile, Still Pathetic, Still Full Of Hate
January 13, 2010

Here’s Pat Robertson talking about the Haiti earthquake. Pat Robertson, a Christian exemplar, a sturdy pillar of the Christian community, a true worshipper of God, once again on video proving what a worthless, sick, sociopathic, pathetic human being he is. See the video here.

And you know Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French, uh you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the Devil. They said we will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French. True Story. And so the Devil said "OK, it’s a deal." And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other, desperately poor. That island is Hispaniola is one island. It’s cut down the middle. On one side is Haiti, on the other side is the Dominican republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc.. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. Uh, they need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God and out of this tragedy. I’m optimistic something good may come.

Robertson is one of the great arguments for retroactive abortion. Fortunately, by his own lights and his own faith, he’s going to burn in his Hell forever. This is a guy who’d suck money from his god’s genitals if his god was stupid enough to let this pathetic parasite get close. He ranks right up there, scratch that, right down there with Fathead Falwell blaming the people of New Orleans for what Katrina did to them. The Lion would bet a dollar this miserable excuse for a human being is trying to figure out how he can make a buck off the misery going on in Haiti.

He’s got a history of sucking money from misery and death.

He founded Operation Blessing, a charity that was alleged to have allowed its planes and pilots to be used to shuttle gold-mining equipment around Zaire for another Robertson enterprise, African Development Company (ADC), a diamond-mining operation. Robertson was ADC’s founder and sole stockholder, and he had a close working relationship with Zaire’s brutal dictator, Mobutu Sese Seko. While Mobutu was embezzling $6-billion from his nation’s coffers, Robertson established a huge farming operation outside Zaire’s capitol city, and he was granted extensive lumber and mining permissions along the upper Zaire River. Robertson socialized with Mobutu on the dictator’s yacht, and publicly referred to him as America’s ally in the war on communism. The US State Department charged that Mobutu’s regime had committed massive violations of human rights including torture, murder, censorship, and religious persecution.

Robertson’s diamond business also involved Charles Taylor, the Liberian leader who seized power in a violent coup in 1996, and became president after an election, widely considered tainted, held the following year. Robertson refers to Taylor as a Christian, a good Baptist, and a friend. To the rest of the world, however, Taylor is a man indicted for war crimes, including much of the bloodshed and atrocities that have afflicted Liberia and its neighbor nations for years.

Here are some of Pat Robertson’s "greatest hits". For more on Robertson’s long history of extremism, you can check out the coverage at RightWingWatch.org.

  • In 2001, Robertson and Jerry Falwell laid the blame for 9/11 on groups like People For the American Way, saying "I point the finger in their face and say ‘you helped this happen.’"
  • In an effort to defeat pro-gay legislation, Robertson claimed that hate crimes laws would protect someone "who likes to have sex with ducks."
  • In discussing other religions, Robertson said that Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism and other religions "are mostly demonic powers. Sure, they’re demons."
  • When GOP Rep. Mark Foley was accused on an inappropriate sexual relationship with a minor, Robertson insisted, "Well, this man’s gay; he does what gay people do and so don’t worry about it."
  • When Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a stroke, Robertson responded, "He was dividing God’s land, and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or United States of America."
  • At various times, Robertson has claimed that Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters are God’s way of sending a message.

Welcome to the leader of the Christian Taliban Leadership Council, along with that Hagee clown, and Rick Warren, and all the other fat cat preachers sucking up the money from brain-dead Christians while telling poor bastards like the Haitians and the World Trade Center workers that they had it coming because they were bad people. What a bunch of sick fucks these Christians are. And talk about sheep! The more hate and ignorance their leaders spew at them, the more money these sheep hand them, all the while nodding their empty heads in agreement and praising their murderous, narcissist god.

Christians and modern-day Republicans, scum of the earth, vilest of the vile, sickest of the sick.

Yeah, you’re right, The Lion can hate just as well as the lowlifes of Christianity and Republicanism; he just doesn’t dress it up in Bible babble and political hypocrisy. So here’s a great vat of Lion piss on the whole sad lot of you creeps.
