Steele Shows Mettle, Declares GOP A Shallow Shell

Michael Steele, head of the Republican National Committee, spoke at an RNC luncheon yesterday about his plans to regalvanize the party.

The Republican Party leader, who has struggled in his early months in power, declared an end on Tuesday to the party’s search for answers to its problems and took aim at President Barack Obama.

"The honeymoon is over," said Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. "We are going to challenge those policies that we believe are wrong, and we are going to do so without apology and without a second thought."

The Lion notes that the Republicans seldom, if ever, resort to a second thought, preferring to go with their first knee-jerk response. The current Republican party’s first thought has consistently been ‘No!’ to everything Obama and the Democrats propose.

If anything, Steele has shown that the Republicans are not only incapable of rational thought, but that they absolutely revel in ignorance, irrationality, and negativity.

As for regalvanizing the party, well, perhaps they have been shocked into their current foolishness by their losses, or perhaps Steele means to coat them in a rigid zinc shell. Either way works for The Lion.

  1. Steele got it wrong. The Rethugs aren’t going to challenge Dem policies because they think those policies are wrong; they’re going to challenge Dem policies because it’s their habit to challenge anything that isn’t their idea.

  2. “it’s their habit to challenge anything that isn’t their idea”

That would be just about everything in the world.

  3. Except war and corruption and betrayal.

  4. They are busily self-imploding while simultaneously secretly hoping that something really bad happens that they can blame on the Democrats in the slim chance that this might propel them to some electoral victories. Look at this thing with Pelosi. They want a full Congressional investigation about what she really knew about the torture, while fighting tooth and nail to prevent any former Bush administration officials coming under scrutiny. It’s insanity – but what else should we expect from the remnants of the GOP. All that’s left is the propaganda wing and the religitards.

    • Maybe the Dems should forge ahead with that full Congressional investigation. When they open Pelosi’s closet you can betcha lots of Republican bones are going to fall out and the Rethugs will cry foul and demand that the investigation be stopped. It’s time for the Dems to start calling these assholes out and shoving their bluffs right back in their faces.

Good piece here. Now if only the bubbleheads in the mainstream media would get off their asses and put this kind of analysis on the air. (Yeah, fat chance.)
