White House Plays Sleazy Race Card Against Obama

From an examiner.com story, we have this from the White House:

As for Obama, a senior White House official said the freshman senator from Illinois was “capable” of the intellectual rigor needed to win the presidency but instead relies too heavily on his easy charm.

“It’s sort of like, ‘that’s all I need to get by,’ which bespeaks sort of a condescending attitude towards the voters,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “And a laziness, an intellectual laziness.”

Over at TPM, Josh Marshall notes the Republican National Committee’s involvement:

The RNC just shot off an email building on the slur. With the headline “Razzle Dazzle”, the email continues the theme that Obama is just another black fancy-pants with a slick smile and nice turn of phrase but either without the candle-power or stick-to-it-iveness to actually get things done.

Never mind that Obama’s written two books and George Bush can barely read a children’s book and has the intellectual competence of a four-year-old deranged evangelist.

Getting down to the nitty gritty, the White House and the RNC are using some barely clothed language to call Obama a lazy nigger.

Why? Because it appeals to the sensibilities of their political base. “Oh, look,” they say, “a nigger’s running for President.” Guaranteed to pull in the Republican votes.

They pulled this crap against Harold Ford of Tennessee and got away with it. They did it against McCain in 2000 in South Carolina and got away with it. And they’re doing it again. And they’ll keep doing it until the people of this country shut them down.

Lest dissenters point to Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell as counter-examples, let’s note that the Bushites turned Powell into a shuffling liar before the world, and that Rice has demonstrated utter incompetence while acting the slave for Bush. And let’s not forget that Bush has gutted the Civil Rights division of the Department of Justice, which undoubtedly makes Republicans just salivate in glee.

This isn’t what America is about.

Bigotry is what the Republicans are all about.

  1. I’m so glad you don’t fall into PC-speak. Every time there’s reported talk about somebody being called a nigger, they always say “He was called the N-word”. Hey folks, if you can’t stand the word in a news report, or commentary, then glue your ears shut.

I wouldn’t use the term as a pejorative, but when reporting it as news? C’mon.

I heard a news report the other day say a woman was called “the B-word”. Oh horrors! Not (whispering) “bitch”?

    Oh, my Victorian sensibilities.

  3. White House comments about Obama is correct according to my own reading. Obama was excellent brilliant and intelligent when I first listen his speech as keynote speaker at Kerry campaign. The Obama just failed to keep that up for his Presidential race.

McCain, Harold, Powell, Rice I completely agree with you.

  4. QB, I have to disagree with you. The 2004 convention was a one-shot deal. Even I can be brilliant in a one-off situation (ask anyone, go ahead, ask 🙂 ). Since then he has been an active U.S. Senator, and is conducting a high-stakes political campaign for the Presidency. No one can keep up a high level of intellectual brilliance all the time under those conditions.

In America, when a white person puts the words ‘lazy’ and ‘black’ in the same sentence, in the same paragraph, and that person is a Republican, he’s trying to smear the black person in the minds of white Republican voters. He’s trying to get those voters to think “That person’s a lazy nigger,” and whites who think that sure as hell don’t want a nigger in the White House. And in that sense whether Obama is intellectually lazy is irrelevant and unimportant for the purposes of the Republicans. When it comes to using the lowest, foulest sort of racist tactics to win elections, the Republicans are the unchallenged champions. It’s about the only thing they’re good at.

And look who’s making the call – the minions of one of the most intellectually deficient Presidents in the history of the country.

  5. Ric you are brilliant almost in very post so really don’t have to ask anyone at all. The race is very much might be on the minds of Americans but really was expecting to do lot better than what he is doing on the campaign. Obama was right when he said that he will negotiate with North Korea, Iran, Syria, and any other state which are hostile towards US but unfortunately the stupid thinking of the common voters and the political gurus interpreted this as his lack of experience. The political BS which is promoted by the mainstream media and these corrupt politicians is that the right approach is not to talk to enemies. Obama make another mistake with promise to attack Pakistan NWFP region to fight “war on terror”. The biggest problem Obama has he is trying to be more controlled person when replying questions make him stumble and fumble, he would be much better with his free flowing answers to the questions.

I really don’t judge people with the color of their skin, culture, region and religion.

  6. Careful, QB, I might blush! No, wait, I forgot – I’m shameless, so no blushing.

Agreed that Obama has made mistakes. So have they all. And I think a basic mistake they all make is to say they’ll contine the so-called ‘war on terror’. As Gore Vidal pointed out, that’s like making war on dandruff. As I pointed out, going after terrorists with a military army is like using a sledge hammer to catch mercury.

If Obama is, as you say, seeking to be more controlled, I would bet he’s working with so-called professional handlers and that they are giving him bad advice. He should just get up there and be honest, albeit using sound logic and rhetoric (in the original meaning of rhetoric, not the debased meaning used today).

As for your last sentence, you may not judge people on those things, but Americans have to take an oath within one month of their birth that they will judge people on color, culture, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, wealth, and type of car they drive. Republicans willingly take the oath. Democrats take it but cross their fingers and avert their eyes. Progressives and liberals give the oath administrator the finger. Me, I stuck my finger in his eyes and kicked him in the balls. Haven’t been able to hold a steady job, get a mortgage, stay married and in debt, or snag an invite to the White House ever since. Hell, can’t even get laid anymore. Ah, America!

(I don’t like football or baseball either. Give me rugby and soccer or give me valium!) (Don’t worry, it doesn’t make sense to me either.)
