From what I hear, they just want out from under Federal programs. It's a strange state sovereignty tactic that I think they find applicable for lots of things they want to kill like gay rights, abortion, stem cell research, welfare, and national healthcare. It's short sighted of course.

There also seems to be this strange conspiracy theory mentality where they feel departments like the FDA have been compromised anyway so let's just scrap them. It's insanity, imo. Something doesn't work? Gee, let's throw it out then. Ridiculous. Of course if you're from New Orleans, I can understand some of the animosity towards the Feds via FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Philly -

One thing the Reps and Liberts want is less taxes, preferably no taxes.

I would be willing to grant them their wish, but with conditions. If they don't pay taxes they cannot use the public roads. They cannot receive fire and police protection. They cannot enter the military, nor derive any benefit from military action or activity. They cannot use the courts for civil or criminal matters. They cannot receive passports or diplomatic services should they go overseas. They cannot benefit from Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. Their children cannot attend public schools or publicly funded universities or colleges. They cannot drive any vehicle requiring licensing or registration. They cannot purchase the few foods that are actually inspected by the government, nor any products regulated or inspected by the government. They cannot work in any business or industry that is subject to federal or state or local safety regulations. They cannot receive health care at any hospital that receives federal or state money (which is, of course, tax money). They cannot participate in the banking system, in as much as accounts are insured by the Federal government.

In short they cannot receive any benefit from any program or activity or institution that derives from the use of tax money.

And, in order to ensure tranquility and peace insofar as possible, they must obey the same laws as everyone else.

Ask them how far down that road they want to go.

So that's why I have a headache! I've been trying to claw my way out of your mind, but it's just not working.

I get my anti-depressants from the health food store and from blogging. So far those folk haven't got their fingers too deep into those things. So far.

Get out of my mind, man. I've been arguing a lot of this with Republican and neo-Libertarians for awhile now.

You left out the other American expense, anti-depressants necessary for coping with this state of affairs, which are brought to us by another group with their hands in the works, the pharmaceutical companies.
